Muhyiddin PN's sole nominee for PM job, others can quit dreaming - Peja

Newly minted Bersatu vice-president Ahmad Faizal Azumu stressed that Perikatan Nasional chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin is the sole nominee for the prime minister’s job from the opposition.

He said if others in the coalition have such ambitions, they should stop dreaming.

“I think they should just stop having such ambitions (to become the next premier).

“So far, everyone is backing Muhyiddin, so why should they jeopardise it? It will only undermine our party,” he said during an interview with Malaysiakini recently.

Asked to elaborate on Bersatu’s ties with PAS, Faizal (above) said both parties share a good rapport.

Faizal acknowledged some may not believe it but he has never seen leaders from both parties raise their voices during meetings, let alone bicker with one another.

“Whatever decisions we make, it is done openly and by consensus.

“Personally, even though Abdul Hadi Awang is PAS president, I consider him my leader too.

“And others like Takiyuddin Hassan (PAS secretary-general) also look up to Muhyiddin as their leader,” the former Perak menteri besar said.

“We share good ties, personally and professionally, but people keep asking us (about possible souring ties)… perhaps they like to see us fight,” he added.

On that note, Faizal said the only parties that like to bicker with one another are the ones from the coalition government.

“They are the ones fighting. The Umno fellows can’t stand PKR. The PKR ones don’t like those from Amanah. And Amanah members don’t like DAP.

“This is the input we get when talking to their grassroots,” the former youth and sports minister claimed.

‘Big names’

When asked whether the tie-up between PAS and Bersatu under the PN umbrella will continue until the next general election, Faizal expressed confidence and even claimed that “big names” will join the coalition.

Pressed on their identities, Faizal merely mentioned they were “good people” who were upset with the government for reneging on their promises.

“These are ‘nameless’ leaders… those who fell out of favour with their party presidents.

“For example, I suspect they may not get seats in the 16th general election. So, where else can they go?” Faizal asked, adding they would only be accepted into PN if they denounced corruption.
